LC4MP is significant in connection to TikTok since it explains the dependence we develop the more we use the app. TikTok has been proven to be one of the roots of us being distracted by our phones, having shortened attention spans, and not being able to enjoy the social interactions that we have with our friends and family. For most people now, the five-minute break that we have in between activities such as work or school, is most likely spent on our phones, rather than taking a few minutes to ourselves.
The theory also shows us that when we over stimulate our appetite motivational system through mediated messages, we become desensitized to what we watch, making us lose interest in other activities that might have enjoyed before (Fisher & Weber 2020). It can also apply to any other app that is subject to making short video content, making it harder for us to escape social media as a whole.
I was once a regular user, and I would start my free time after class on TikTok, which led to a few hours, and ultimately half my day was wasted. One of my biggest issues was trouble listening to when people were talking while I was simultaneously looking at short videos and missed out on one-on-one interactions.

Watching short videos and consuming more content than I could handle ended being the biggest distraction from the things in my life that truly mattered such as school, my hobbies, and my family. My life was slowly being taken away from me, until I decided to delete it altogether. And the reason why this type of matter needs to be addressed is due to it being a problem for millions of others as well.
My mental state has proven to be better without mindlessly scrolling through my phone. Don’t get me wrong, there have been days where I miss the sensation of watching short videos or get bored too easily when watching television shows and movies, but it is a gradual process.
